What are the biggest benefits of minimalist living?

I think the old adage ‘less is more’ applies here. Unfortunately in today’s society there still seems to be a strong drive towards owning ‘things’ and the more ‘things’ that you own the higher standing in the world you seem to have.

Before thinking about the effect this has on an individuals day to day life there is also the bigger picture of what it’s doing to the environment as a whole to consider. For example, fashionable clothes that are shipped round the world to be worn only once and left in a wardrobe. Not good.

A minimalist approach helps negate this kind of problem of course but it also avoids a vicious circle of maintenance. Luxury cars that are so technologically reliant constant upgrades are required or expensive ornaments that sit on the shelf adding no value and requiring constant dusting.

The absolute best part of minimalist living though is it removes the yearning for always wanting, spending money that could be utilised elsewhere for the sake of keeping up appearances. Meanwhile neighbours and friends are doing the same, almost certainly also spending money they can’t really afford and which would be better spent elsewhere. Very strange when you think about it.
